Many dogs walk as though the floor has personally offended them the first time they wear shoes. When getting your dog used to the shoes, plan a walk. Put the shoes on VERY last before walking out the door. They will do that funny high-step for a short time and soon be distracted with the sights, sounds and smells and forget they're even wearing those blasted shoes. Check the fit regularly and remove the shoes if you notice rubbing, irritation, or ongoing discomfort.
Dog shoes provide a barrier, but they do not make extreme heat safe. Check the ground temperature before walking, limit time on heated surfaces, and inspect your dog’s paws after use. The Doccs are helpful footwear—not a tiny four-piece force field.
Sizing & Fit Guide
Dog-shoe sizing is based on actual paw measurements. Measure before ordering rather than choosing a size based only on your dog’s weight or breed.
How to Measure:
- Place one paw on a piece of paper while your dog is standing and putting normal weight on it.
- Trace around the paw, including the nails.
- Measure the widest point of the tracing for paw width.
- Measure the longest point from the back of the pad to the end of the longest nail for paw length.
- Repeat for all four paws. Front and back paws may not be identical, so use the largest measurements when selecting a size.
Compare your measurements with the insole dimensions below. The shoe’s interior should be slightly larger than the paw rather than pressing tightly against it.

After putting the shoes on, check that the paw sits flat inside each shoe and that the straps are snug without restricting movement. Supervise your dog while the shoes are being worn, inspect the fit regularly, and do not allow the shoes or charms to become chew toys.
